Sentinel staff report– A portion of Sylvan Road in Citrus Heights was shut down for nearly 12 hours and several hundred residents lost power after a vehicle collision involving a power pole occurred near the old Sylvan School house Wednesday night.
The incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, with lanes being fully re-opened shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday. Downed wires could be seen crossing Sylvan Road following the collision, and an SUV observed at the scene around 11 p.m. appeared to be caught in utility wires, with half the vehicle suspended in the air.
Power was restored to most residents within several hours, but according to SMUD’s online outage map, about 85 customers were still without power as of 11 a.m. Thursday. SMUD Spokeswoman Lindsay VanLaningham told The Sentinel that repairs involved were “significant,” requiring crews to install a new pole and reconnect all lines affected.
A police advisory sent to media said the collision occurred on the 6900 block of Sylvan Road and caused police to closed down all traffic between Community Drive and Auburn Boulevard. The collision did not involve any injuries.
*An initial version of this story indicated that the SUV pictured above collided with the power pole. Confirmation from police is being sought to confirm whether another vehicle was involved as well.
