Sentinel staff report–
Sylvan Cemetery in Citrus Heights is proceeding with plans for its annual Memorial Day ceremony this year, although some modifications will be implemented in light of the COVID-19 health pandemic.
“We are still going to have our Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 25, at 11:00,” spokesman Jim Monteton confirmed in an email to The Sentinel on Thursday. In a prior email on Monday, Monteton said “We are hoping that there will not be a problem with having a ceremony since according to the latest we will be off of our stay in place restrictions on Friday May 22.”
Supervisor Sue Frost’s office confirmed Thursday that she will be in attendance at the upcoming Memorial Day ceremony.
Monteton said the annual event will not include a march this year, but will still have a half-hour ceremony under the cemetery’s central gazebo. He said the Folsom Harmony Express Choir will also not be in attendance, and a Citrus Heights Police Department Honor Guard will also not likely be present.
Those that wish to sit will be provided with folding chairs, but “there will be no mandatory seating arrangements,” Monteton said.
“We would love to have you here but if you are concerned about your health and do not want to attend, we understand,” he said in an invite to community members.
Sylvan Cemetery is located at 7401 Auburn Blvd., in Citrus Heights.
