Sentinel staff report–
Citrus Heights is slated to get some new restaurants and other establishments in the coming year, despite the coronavirus pandemic’s affect on the economy over the past year.
Here’s six who have announced plans to come to Citrus Heights:
Fukumi Ramen. A popular Japanese noodle restaurant in Roseville confirmed plans last month to expand to a second location in Citrus Heights. The restaurant will occupy the former Jimmy John’s sandwich shop at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue. Owners said they plan to open in early 2021. Checkers. A new Checkers burger drive-thru is nearing completion outside Steve Cook’s Fireside Lanes bowling alley at 7911 Auburn Blvd. The restaurant will feature no indoor seating by design, something the franchisee says is a beneficial design especially amid the coronavirus pandemic. Five Guys. The American fast-casual burger chain pulled a permit for tenant improvements in February last year, in the new building constructed outside Costco and Walmart at 6920 Auburn Blvd. The company’s press division did not immediately return an email request for an update on Wednesday. Raising Cane’s. Citrus Heights planning commissioners approved plans in December to allow construction of a new 3,100-square-foot Raising Cane’s chicken fingers restaurant and drive-thru outside the new Hobby Lobby store on Greenback Lane. Construction is anticipated to start early this year. For more, see article: Citrus Heights Planning Commission gives OK to new Raising Cane’s drive-thru
Starbucks. A new Starbucks with a wrap-around drive-thru has been announced as a tenant for an under-construction retail center at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Sungarden Drive. The project’s architect said Thursday that Starbucks is planning to open by the end of March. See prior article: New Citrus Heights retail plaza, drive-thru project moving forward
Popeyes. The recently boarded-up Burger King restaurant at 8030 Greenback Ln. is slated to become a new Popeyes chicken restaurant. City documents show JAMV Inc. submitted plans to remodel the location last year, although a timeline for the project could not be confirmed. Other businesses are also slated to open in Citrus Heights, including Green Acres on San Juan Avenue and a new surgery center at Stock Ranch and Sylvan road.
