The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused the Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance Resource Team (HART) to cancel plans for their annual rotating winter shelter.
In an update posted on its website earlier this month, HART said it will be providing a “warming center” instead of hosting overnight guests. The warming center was launched on Jan. 4 and is tentatively available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rotating between five area churches.
HART is providing guests with a hot meal, hot beverage, and snacks. Guests are also able to take a meal to go.
Assistance services are available at the warming centers, and guests will be able to speak with a homeless navigator, get haircuts, and charge their cell phone. HART is also offering clothing and hygiene products to guests.

Additional support services are offered by the Citrus Heights Navigator who is slated to visit the sites each week. The American Legion will also offer assistance to homeless veterans. Sacramento Self Help Housing and Citrus Heights Animal Control will be offering services, according to HART.
Volunteers and organizations willing to become host sites are also being sought. More details and contact information are posted at citrusheightshart.org/winter-respite.
Dates and locations for the respite and warming centers are as follows:
- Jan 4-8 – Advent Lutheran Church, 5901 San Juan Ave
- Jan 11-15 – Celtic Cross Presbyterian Church, 5839 Dewey Dr.
- Jan 18-22 – Antelope Road Christian Fellowship, 7951 Antelope Rd.
