By Paul Makhnovskiy–
As a new appointee preparing to serve the community and city, I want to take some time to introduce and share a little about myself to the residents I will be working alongside.
But before we get into me, I would like to provide some context on my appointment.
Before the appointments took place during the Jan. 14 council meeting, time was given to the public to provide comments and I raised my hand via Zoom to participate. I shared the following statement:
“My name is Paul Makhnovskiy from Brook Dale Drive near Rusch Park and I wanted to introduce myself and express my interest in being appointed to the planning committee. You’ve seen the interviews and I hope you can see my eagerness to serve the community and the City of Citrus Heights at this capacity. I hope to bring value with my current skills and previous experiences collaborating with the planning department on various projects. I hope you would consider me for this important role.”
Bret Daniels, being the first to choose a nominee, nominated me while the council approved his decision and the appointment was made official.
Tom Scheeler was also appointed for a four-year term by Tim Schaefer, and Talaya Turner Mike and Michael Nishimura will serve on the committee for a two-year term based on the at-large appointments.
Living in Citrus Heights for the majority of my life, I have seen the city prosper and evolve. I believe the city truly enables growth, development, and beauty and I want to be part of the stewardship. I want to contribute to our city becoming the best city yet.
I always had a calling to serve the public, I have been a servant of the people working for the State of California, so when I received an email from Citrus Heights with the opportunity to serve on the Planning Commission, I knew I had to apply. Regarding the Planning Commission appointment, it is important that we continue development of communities and businesses within the city. This will help local businesses and increase the city’s revenue, which in turn will continue to offer high quality services to the residents as well as increase property values in the city.
It’s critical for the committee to exercise extreme care, as these projects get reviewed to make sure the General Plan is adhered to and the best possible decision is made.
I currently work at CalPERS (California Public Employees’ Retirement System) as an information technology specialist and provide technology consulting for small to medium businesses, ranging from web development to infrastructure and beyond.
I am married and spend my time reading in the evenings or working on various hobbies — one of which is the old craft of silversmithing.
My favorite books are:
Getting Things Done, by David Allen
The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho
Principles: Life and Work, by Ray Dalio
I would enjoy meeting you, feel free to connect.
