Sentinel staff report–
A road rage incident on Greenback Lane near the Citrus Heights police station was caught on camera and has been viewed over one million times after being published on a popular Tesla Youtube channel.
The incident was captured from several angles of a Tesla camera and included in a video that premiered on Jan. 31 on the channel “Wham Bam Tesla Cam.” The channel boasts 124,000 subscribers and is known for its compilations of Tesla camera footage, ranging from car accidents, road rage footage and debris damage.
In the high-definition recording, a white Toyota is seen driving eastbound on Greenback Lane before cutting behind a Tesla and briefly into the path of a Subaru. The driver of the Subaru speeds up and follows the Toyota, dancing back and forth before the Toyota driver is blocked by the Subaru from changing lanes. Rear, side, and front-view cameras from the Tesla show all the action.
While stopped at a red light at the intersection of Greenback Lane and Dewey Drive, the Subaru passenger is seen yelling at the Toyota driver in the next lane. The passenger concludes by spitting at the vehicle.
The Subaru then speeds ahead, but apparently waits on the side of the road as the white Toyota approaches. The two vehicles then stop at a red light on Greenback Lane at Fountain Square Drive, a block away from the police station.
The driver of the Subaru is shown getting out of his vehicle in the middle of stopped traffic and approaching the Toyota on the driver side, but is then seen backing up away from the Toyota for an unknown reason. Voice narration on the video quips: “it looks like he remembered the current pandemic situation, and at least he maintained social distancing while road raging.”
The video ends with the Subaru driver walking back to his vehicle, but not before kicking the corner of the Toyota’s rear bumper with his foot.
Several other clips of different incidents and collisions are also included in the same video, including a Tesla Model 3 apparently racing a Dodge Charger on a freeway, which ends with the Dodge colliding into another vehicle.
Tesla is known for its security feature “Sentry Mode,” which was introduced first for its Model 3 vehicles and then later for the Model X and Model S vehicles built after August 2017. “Eight surround cameras provide 360 degrees of visibility around the car at up to 250 meters of range,” Tesla’s website says.
