The Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance Team (HART) and other area nonprofit organizations are participating in Thursday’s “Big Day of Giving,” an effort to raise funds and awareness for charities throughout the Sacramento region.
The yearly 24-hour pledge drive is promoted by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, and has raised over $7 million, according to the organization’s website.
As of press time Thursday afternoon, Citrus Heights HART had received over $2,500 in donations, according to an online tracker posted at bigdayofgiving.org.
Organizations and businesses in the area have also pledged to participate in the fundraising day, with Sunrise MarketPlace pledging $500 to support HART, and at least two other local restaurants are also participating by giving a portion of proceeds to HART.
The local Citrus Heights nonprofit is one of several HART groups in the region, providing resources and assistance to members of the community who have unstable housing, or are experiencing homelessness. Volunteers offer clothing and hygiene products as well as a hot shower and meals during scheduled events throughout the year.
Other local organizations listed on the Big Day of Giving site for the Citrus Heights area are Soroptimist International of Citrus Heights, Neighborhood Wellness Foundation, Citrus Heights Arts, ALS Association Greater Sacramento Chapter, Capitol Pops Concert Band, Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center, Haven Dog Rescue, Lilliput Families, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, NorCal Bully Breed Rescue, River City Chorale, Single Mom Strong, Sunrise Christian Food Ministry, and Wynspring Family resource Center.
