Sentinel staff report–
The Citrus Heights Police Department said a shooting occurred in a residential neighborhood Thursday evening, leaving one man fatally injured after he was struck multiple times by gunfire.
In a news release on Friday, police said multiple 911 calls were received around 6:35 p.m. on Aug. 26 regarding a shooting near the intersection of Lichen Drive and Carmelwood Drive, located a few blocks away from the Raley’s shopping plaza.
Police said responding officers found “an adult male lying in the roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.” Lifesaving efforts were attempted by officers, but the man later succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a local hospital.
Police said those involved in the shooting have been identified, and detectives are continuing to follow up on additional leads. The department credited Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department detectives and community members with assisting in the investigation.
The name and age of the man who was killed has not been released. Additional information is also not available, as police say the investigation is currently ongoing.
The department said “all involved subjects are believed to have known each other,” and describe the shooting as appearing to be an “isolated incident,” with no additional threat to the public believed to be a factor.
Anyone with additional information related to the shooting is asked to call the department’s crime tip line at: (916) 727-5524.
Another shooting occurred in Citrus Heights on Aug. 8 in the area of Auburn Boulevard and Antelope Road. The Sentinel also covered a story in May, documenting eight shootings had occurred in the city through May 23, up more than double from the same period in 2020. Only one of the eight shootings was fatal.
Police Chief Ron Lawrence in May described the year’s shootings as “isolated incidents with known suspects, most of whom have been identified and many already captured.”
From May: Citrus Heights has had eight shootings so far in 2021. What’s going on?
