If you haven’t heard of the Citrus Grove shopping center in Citrus Heights, it might be because there was no signage, until now.
In the latest change to the property, a large monument sign is nearing completion along Auburn Boulevard. The addition was approved during a Jan. 22, 2020 meeting, according to a previous report by The Sentinel.

The sign is set back about 50 feet from Auburn Boulevard, located near California Burger. Existing signage for the shopping center will be removed.
The 30-by-20-foot sign for the Citrus Grove center required approval from the Planning Commission due to the city’s existing sign ordinance only allowing for a maximum sign size of 40 square feet, according to documents included in the commission’s agenda packet. The new sign will be about 605 square feet in size, more than 15 times larger than allowed by the sign regulations.
Progress at the center stalled during the pandemic last year, when anchor tenant Studio Movie Grill declared bankruptcy. As a result, the company abandoned construction on the Citrus Heights location, leaving a partially renovated building that continues to be an eyesore to the center.

The building has since been sold to a private investment company in Arizona, which specializes in long-term leasing. A future tenant has not been announced.
Recent tenants to bring life back to the center have been Venice Nail Studio, Greenhouse Cafe, and Charity Shop Wholesale. Gold’s Gym, Big Lots, and California Burger continue to operate at the location.
