A 48-year-old Citrus Heights man was sentenced on Thursday to 24 years in prison for the sexual exploitation of a 13-year-old neighbor, according to a news release by the Department of Justice.
David John Alcock was sentenced for sexually abusing the teen over a period of several months, and he produced “multiple visual depictions of those acts,” the release said.
Authorities say Alcock is known to have sent at least one video depicting the victim engaging in sexual acts over the internet. He also received illicit material involving children and over 200 videos depicting sexual abuse of children were found on Alcock’s mobile device at the time of his arrest, authorities say.
Citrus Heights police worked on the case with local and federal authorities, including the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Christina McCall.
“Sexual abuse against children is a pervasive and unfathomable crime that impacts innocent victims and threatens the safety of our youth, who are the future of our communities,” Citrus Heights Police Chief Alex Turcotte said. “The Citrus Heights Police Department is committed to bringing the defendants in these cases to justice.”
“David Alcock used his position as a trusted neighbor in his community to prey upon the innocence of a child who lived nearby,” said Special Agent in charge Sean Ragan of the FBI Sacramento Field Office, in Thursday’s news release. He said Alcock also “admitted to collecting child pornography for two decades.”
Alcock was sentenced on Jan. 6 by U.S. District Judge Troy Nunley. His prison term will be followed by 20 years of supervised release.
The case was prosecuted as part of a national initiative that began in May 2006 called Project Safe Childhood. The goal of the initiative is to “Combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse,” according to the release.
The project works to bring federal, state, and local authorities together in an effort to more effectively apprehend and prosecute adults who exploit children. It also works to identify and rescue victims, according the the project’s website.
