The latest vote count totals released Nov. 22 show Mayor Porsche Middleton has regained a slight lead of 29 votes in the race for Citrus Heights City Council District 5.
While the two had been tied with exactly 1,523 votes apiece as of Nov. 18, the latest update just before Thanksgiving showed Middleton with 1,776 votes and restaurant owner Natalee Price close behind with 1,747 vote.
In another close race, District 2 candidates’ Michael Nishimura and MariJane Lopez-Taff are separated by less than 90 votes. Nishimura leads with 1,657 votes, while Lopez-Taff has won 1,569 votes.
The county currently shows a total of 400,511 ballots have been counted, with the remaining number of ballots left to process being under 89,000.
The next update from elections officials is slated to be released by 4 p.m. on Nov. 29. Final certification after all votes are counted is slated for Dec. 8, 2022.
