Renovation work at the 150,000-square-foot Sunrise Village shopping center continues, with the coming addition of a new fitness club.
Club Studio Fitness has signage installed on the building, as interior work continues. Sentinel staff observed an empty interior with construction activity underway inside the building on Wednesday, but no one at the site was available for comment.
An email sent to the company on Thursday was not immediately returned, and a representative for the Sunrise MarketPlace business improvement district said Friday that she did not have information about an anticipated date or month the fitness center is expected to open. The company has begun advertising its Citrus Heights location on social media, and currently is accepting “VIP list” signups to get on a wait list for the new club.
The 36,152-square-foot center anchor suite, located near the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue, was initially slated to be the home of City Sports Club, according to a previous report by The Sentinel. Reasons for the change were not immediately clear.
The website for Club Studio Fitness lists 11 locations in California, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, Texas, and Virginia. The Citrus Heights location is listed as “coming soon” with no opening date.
Renovations at Sunrise Village have been ongoing since the demolition of the Benihana restaurant in March of 2021, The Sentinel reported. Approved renovation included “significant exterior enhancements” to the facades of existing buildings, along with canopies above walkways, the creation of outdoor patio spaces and modifications to the existing roofline. Large archway signage branding the center as “Sunrise Village” was also approved for two of the center’s driveways.
The former Rite Aid suite was not included in renovations because the property is under separate ownership, a representative of Merlone Geier previously told The Sentinel.
