Sentinel staff report–
In a change of plans, Citrus Heights Mayor Bret Daniels said in a statement to fellow council members on Tuesday that he will be be resigning from his position on the council effective Aug. 31, 2024.
Daniels previously announced he would be moving out of state, but said he planned to remain in California through the end of the year and complete his current term on the City Council.
His full statement is included below:
My Fellow Council Members,
It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that I must share I will be resigning from the council effective EOB August 31st, 2024. You all know that I have moved forward with our move to Kentucky but it was my hope and desire to finish my term. I have not been able to secure housing in my district and I do not want to put the City in any jeopardy, so I must resign.
Our next council meeting on August 28th will be my last. It is my request that you leave my seat open and let the citizens decide who the next council member for District 1 will be through the November election process. It has been a true pleasure and honor to serve with each and every one of you. I know that the City is in good hands.
