Sentinel staff report–
The Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance Resource Team will host its 3rd Annual Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser on Nov. 3 at the Community Center, in an effort to help fund the nonprofit’s various local programs and winter shelter.
While the group has held its prior spaghetti feeds at Holy Family Church, this year’s fundraiser will be held for the first time at the Citrus Heights Community Center to accommodate more attendees. Kathilynn Carpenter, who chairs the local HART board, said past fundraisers have had around 300 attendees, while this year’s event is expected to have over 400.
“This is HART’s only fundraiser and we hope to raise approximately $25,000 so we can continue our programs, which are having a positive impact in the community,” said Carpenter in a news release on Thursday. Those programs include Student Connect, which provides resources for homeless/at-risk students and their families, as well as a “Stand Down” event for at-risk veterans, and the group’s annual Winter Sanctuary.
In addition to the spaghetti dinner, the event will also have a dessert auction, silent and live auction and raffle prizes. According to the news release, auction items include a dinner for four with firefighters at the fire station, a CHPD ride-a-along, wine tastings, date-night packages, Smart TV’s, lunch with Congressman Ami Bera, and weekend getaways.
Carpenter told The Sentinel the evening will also feature a “POW missing man table and ceremony” put on by the American Legion Post 637. A check for $2,000 will also be presented to support Placer “Stand Down.”
Tickets run $20 in advance, or $25 at the door. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling (916) 536-9267. Additional information is available at www.citrusheightshart.org.

HART is a local nonprofit that was formed in 2015, with a mission to implement long-term solutions to end homelessness in Citrus Heights. The group is credited with helping bring a homeless navigator to the city to help connect homeless with resources and assistance, as well as hosting a first-ever winter shelter program in Citrus Heights in 2016.
Most recently, HART organized its first “Student Connect” event at Advent Lutheran Church, targeted towards homeless/at-risk K-12 students and their families. Carpenter said a team of 160 volunteers and 42 providers helped provide more than 50 participants with a hot lunch, clothing, haircuts, dental and medical services, housing and food assistance, and more.
HART’s upcoming shelter is scheduled to run from Dec. 31 through March 9, and will help provide temporary shelter at local churches who will host the guests each night and help connect homeless with services and long-term housing solutions.
