Sentinel staff report–
Fire officials advised residents in Citrus Heights to not be alarmed by smoke on Tuesday in the area around Bayside Church on Sylvan Road, as firefighters continued “live fire” training on the church property.
Firefighters also conducted live fire training on the church property last month, where two buildings slated to be demolished were burned by fire crews as part of a training exercise.
Video footage of the training showed a vacant building at the site being burned, with firefighters breaking a window to enter and extinguish the blaze, as well as spray down the roof with high pressure hoses.
Fire officials thanked Bayside Church for making the training possible, saying that “live fire training provides the only realistic conditions for firefighter training so that we can maintain our skills, proficiency, and train newer personnel in the situations we face during emergency response.”
Metro Fire said crews have also been conducting non-destructive training over the past few weeks on the church property.
