A Citrus Heights couple has been convicted of sexual assault charges involving three children, according to a news release from the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday.
Robert Mathis pled guilty to sexually assaulting three children and Erin Mathis pled no contest to charges involving two children. Both defendants also pled to charges of possession of child pornography.
The children were ages one, five, and six, according to the DA’s office. A news release from Citrus Heights police following the arrest in November last year said two of the victims were related to the defendants, and a third was a family friend.
Social media platform Facebook alerted the Citrus Heights Police Department that pornographic images involving children were being sent from the accounts of Robert and Erin Mathis, according to the Wednesday’s news release. An investigation by police revealed pornographic images and videos involving children on devices owned by both defendants.
Erin Mathis admitted she and Robert committed the acts together against two of the children.
Robert Mathis faces 48 years to life in prison, and Erin Mathis faces 33 years to life. Sentencing is scheduled for July 30.
