Sentinel staff report–
Citrus Heights police said a motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a tree on Birdcage Street near Greenback Lane Monday night
In a news release Tuesday, police said a 911 call had been received around 8:05 p.m. on June 21. Arriving officers found the motorcycle with significant damage; its rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Birdcage Street when a vehicle entered the roadway and caused the motorcyclist to swerve and strike a tree,” police said in Tuesday’s statement to media. “We are early in our investigation; however, it appears that speed was the contributing factor to this tragic accident. ”
The collision and subsequent investigation caused police to close down Birdcage Street for several hours following the incident, but the roadway has since reopened.
Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department’s non-emergency number at (916) 727-5500. Police in Tuesday’s statement also reminded drivers to “be attentive to the roadway and other motorists.”
The name of the deceased rider was not released by police, pending notification of relatives. The department said the other vehicle involved remained at the scene and was cooperative with police.
