A rare Austin Healey kit car was damaged after colliding with a Chevrolet pickup truck on Van Maren Lane Friday evening.

Citrus Heights police responded to the non-injury accident that occurred in front of Antelope KinderCare just before 6 p.m. An officer at the scene said it appears the roadster was traveling too fast for the corner. The officer said the occupants of the small two-seat roadster are lucky there were no serious injuries.

A man at the scene who did not want to be identified told police the vehicle hit an oil spot in the roadway. The officer said he did not observe any oil spots in the road. The roadway appeared to be dry after the recent rains.

Austin Healey kits are based on the British Austin Healey design of the 1950s and 1960s. The home-built vehicles can be modified and sold or traded with car enthusiasts. Online auctions show prices around $20,000 for finished kits.
