Citrus Heights police shut down both directions of San Juan Avenue on Thursday night after a motorcycle and  sedan collided near Advent Lutheran Church.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Feb. 17, apparently involving a sedan entering onto San Juan Avenue from Westgate Drive. A reporter from The Sentinel attending a nearby neighborhood meeting observed first responders arrive and attend to the motorcyclist, who was on the ground about 50 to 80 feet from where the mangled bike was laying in the roadway.

The sedan involved was seen stopped sideways in the middle of traffic lanes on San Juan Avenue with significant damage to the front bumper, fender and hood. The motorcycle also appeared to have sustained heavy damage, and pieces from both vehicles were seen littered in the roadway.

Police Lt. Chad Morris said in an email Saturday that the motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital “with moderate injuries to the lower extremities.” He said the other driver had minor injuries.

Morris said an investigation found the sedan had been “in the process of making a turning movement from a side street and pulled into the path of the motorcycle which was traveling northbound on San Juan Ave.” He said DUI did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
