Residents and families looking for a way to close out the end of summer may be interested in several upcoming events for the month of August.
National Night Out: The CHASEN and Sunrise Ranch neighborhood associations are inviting all residents to celebrate first responders on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at C-Bar-C Park Picnic Area, 8275 Oak Ave. Free hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks, dessert pot luck, games and kids activities are on the agenda. CHASEN President Kathy Morris said she is expecting several hundred attendees.

Best of Citrus Heights Awards Event: The Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce is inviting residents and business representatives to participate in the 17th annual “Best of Citrus Heights” awards on Thursday, Aug. 4, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Future Honda, 6151 Auburn Blvd.

Aladdin Jr.: Royal Stage Performing and Visual Arts is inviting community members to enjoy the classic tale of Aladdin, featuring songs from both the Disney film and Broadway musical. There are two casts for this show, featuring performers aged 6-16. Performances begin Thursday, Aug. 4, and run through Saturday, Aug. 7. Showtimes vary.

Hot August Movie Night: Sunrise Recreation and Parks District will host a “Hot August Movie Night” on Saturday, Aug. 13, with activities happening from 3:30-10 p.m. The event includes food trucks, a classic car show, and free swimming from 5:30-7:30 p.m.. The movie “Luca” will begin at dusk. The event takes place on at Rusch Community Park, 7801 Auburn Blvd.

Strange Bedfellows: Showtimes for a new comedy at Theatre in the Heights are slated to happen in August, although performances planned to begin July 29 were postponed due to COVID cases among cast and crew. The show is a premiere production of an original musical, with book, music, and lyrics by local playwright and composer Bill Rowland. The story is set a few weeks before a presidential election, with members of the press desperate to find some hint of a scandal.
