Suspect accused of dragging deputy arrested in Citrus Heights

By Mike Hazlip—
A 31-year-old suspect in an incident that injured two sheriff’s deputies was arrested in Citrus Heights just hours after it began, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office said deputies attempted to contact a suspect driving white 2023 Nissan Titan on Dec. 13 in the 2200 block of Knollwood Drive in Cameron Park. The suspect fled the scene, injuring two deputies with his vehicle in the process.

The release said the suspect, identified as Deondre Kamena Bottoms, allegedly accelerated his vehicle and dragged one of the deputies, “causing him to be thrown several feet to the ground.” Bottoms then struck another deputy with his vehicle as he continued to flee the scene. Both deputies were treated at a nearby hospital and released, the statement said.

Bottoms was later arrested in Citrus Heights on the 7600 block of Greenback Lane without incident, at 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 14, the release said.

Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Kane Kissam said the local police department did not make the arrest, and forwarded any further questions to the sheriff’s office. A Sentinel email sent to the office Thursday afternoon was not immediately returned before press time.

“The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the community and allied law enforcement for their support and assistance in this incident,” the release said.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the location of the vehicle involved in the incident is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (530) 621-6600.
