Citrus Heights City Council members will meet Wednesday to consider a $25,000 grant request, hold a public hearing, and consider options for the recent District 1 City Council seat vacancy.
Vacancy. City Council members will consider options for filling the current District 1 council vacancy at the next City Council meeting. The process for filling a vacant seat requires that current City Council members either appoint a replacement, or hold a special election within 60 days, according to the Government Code. A person appointed or elected to fill a vacancy holds office for the extent of the unexpired term of the former incumbent.
$25k Grant The Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce is requesting an economic development support fund grant in the amount of $25,000, comprised of three parts. The chamber is requesting $10,000 for the Chamber’s Circle sponsorship, which the city has actively participated in sponsoring for 10 years. The chamber is also requesting $7,000, which would go toward renting the Citrus Heights Community Center for a full calendar year. Lastly, the chamber is requesting $8,000 for office relocation support in order to move offices to an unspecified “more prominent and accessible” location within the city.
Zoning. The City Council will hold a public hearing and then review and discuss whether to approve proposed amendments to the zoning ordinances, which were previously discussed at a recent Planning Commission meeting. The Planning Commission voted 4-3 on Aug. 13 to forward a recommendation to the City Council regarding zoning ordinance amendments. The vote came after significant discussion regarding whether to ban new recycling centers from opening in the city. According to the agenda packet, all changes previously proposed regarding recycling centers will be part of the agenda item, but will instead come separately before the council on Sept. 25, 2024.
Camping. The City Council will have the opportunity to either approve or further discuss previously proposed amendments to the illegal camping ordinance. At the previous City Council meeting, the council requested the city amend the ordinance to better define vehicle-related illegal camping by exempting passenger vehicles that are legally licensed, registered, and insured from penalties related to illegal camping.
Delegates. The City Council will vote for a delegate and up to two alternate delegates to participate at the annual League of California Cities conference in October. The city’s appointed voting delegate represents the city by voting on resolutions. The City Council will also review and discuss their stance on the resolution “Fair and Equal Treatment of All Governmental Officials at All Levels,” submitted by the City of Glendora. A 2024 Cal Cities Resolutions packet is included in the agenda packet.
As part of the consent calendar for the council’s Sept. 11 meeting, the council will also consider a regulatory agreement with Habitat For Humanity of Greater Sacramento for the Sayonara Drive housing project. The council will also vote to select a new mayor and vice mayor during the meeting.
Those wishing to make a public comment during the meeting can do so by attending the council meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at City Hall at 6 p.m., or by submitting a written comment beforehand using the city’s website. The deadline to submit comments online is 4 p.m. on the day of the meeting. See full agenda packet online: Click here.
City Hall is located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive.
