A 60-year-old Roseville man was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle near the Interstate 80 on-ramp on Riverside Avenue, less than a mile outside of Citrus Heights.
According to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Mike Hamilton with CHP Auburn, the crash occurred on Sept. 16 at approximately 10:44 a.m. The bicyclist was riding his bike across the crosswalk just prior to the westbound I-80 on-ramp from southbound Riverside Avenue when he was hit by a silver 2021 Toyota Camry.
Citrus Heights Police radio transmissions on Sept. 16 indicate some passersby immediately alerted a nearby Citrus Heights police officer of the collision.
The Camry was driven by a 55-year-old man from Citrus Heights, according to Hamilton. The bicyclist sustained fatal injuries from the collision and was pronounced deceased.
It remains unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Hamilton said the incident is still under investigation.
