What’s going on with Pinkberry’s Citrus Heights location?

By Sara Beth Williams–
A frozen yogurt chain expecting to open in Citrus Heights this summer has encountered delays according to the location’s owner.

The new Pinkberry is now expected to open sometime in October, according to Rick Parhar. Originally, Parhar had anticipated an opening date for Pinkberry in July, and then again in August, but the restaurant, located in Sunrise Village, has remained dark and vacant upon multiple visits to the site by The Sentinel over the last two months.

When asked about delays, Parhar said fire plans had to be redone, but things were being “sorted out” with SMUD. Parhar didn’t elaborate following a second request for explanation.

Pinkberry’s bright green signage can still be seen on the front of a suite in between Teriyaki To Go and Sourdough & Co. with signs also posted on the front doors saying, “Now Hiring.” Chairs and tables could also be seen set up inside the shop.

The company’s website lists the Pinkberry location at 5437 Sunrise Blvd, Suite C as coming soon.

Sunrise MarketPlace Executive Director Kathilynn Carpenter confirmed that Pinkberry used to occupy a space next to Chipotle at 5855 Sunrise Blvd, on the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Macy Plaza Drive in the Target shopping center. According to Yelp reviewers, the former Pinkberry location opened in July of 2010. Carpenter could not confirm a closing date for the former location.

The new location of Pinkberry coming to Sunrise Village will join a cast of tenants including The Habit, Amazon Fresh, Starbucks, Club Studio, Olive Garden and See’s Candies.
