Construction crews are making steady progress on the San Juan High School stadium modernization project, the San Juan Unified School District announced Friday.

In recent weeks, crews have been pouring concrete, putting the synthetic track and field surface into place, and leveling the ground where the new tennis courts will be constructed, the district said. The concession stand and ticket booth are also beginning to take shape with foundations and walls now standing, pictures shared by the district show.

According to the district, the project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2026. Once finished, the modernized stadium will offer students, athletes, and visitors a “more comfortable, accessible, and high-quality environment for games and events, reflecting the district’s ongoing investment in improved school facilities,” the district wrote.

Demolition began in April, and an official groundbreaking for the modernization project took place in May.

The finished project will include a synthetic all-weather track and field, two new tennis courts, and new restrooms, a ticket booth, and a concession area. The bleachers will remain as they are.

The stadium remodel project is funded by the San Juan Unified School District’s bond program, specifically the Measure P bond measure, passed by voters in 2016. This bond allows the district to fund facility modernizations, including the stadium’s upgrades.

San Juan High School was founded in 1913 when the San Juan Union High School District was organized, and its first classes were held in the same year in a temporary building in Fair Oaks. The first permanent building was constructed in 1915 at the current Greenback Lane location in Citrus Heights on land donated by Walter Trainor.
