Another clothing store has vacated its space at Sunrise Mall.
Clothing store Breakout has shuttered for good, one business owner told The Sentinel at the end of November.
During a visit last week, the independently owned store appeared empty, with its gate drawn down and the sign removed from the top of the storefront. A neighboring business owner said the store left at the end of October along with two other nearby businesses.
On numerous visits to the mall at different times of the day over the last six months, Sentinel staff found Breakout to have inconsistent hours, with the store frequently closed in the middle of the day, but open on other days. The store sign was also illegally plugged in with an exterior extension cord, according to photos from a full inspection of the mall completed in May, shared with The Sentinel by the City of Citrus Heights.
Less than twenty businesses remain inside Sunrise Mall and constantly combat rumors of demolition and closure, according to two business owners. Perfumes Luxe owner Kevin Cadinha said this holiday season will be a “make or break” season, but that for now his business remains open and he is in a “wait and see” holding pattern.
JCPenney is still open and operational as the only major anchor store left inside the mall and has placed flags and banners around the property notifying customers that they are still open.
A handful of other national retailers remain, including Famous Footwear, Lids, T-Mobile, and Kay Jewelers, along with several independent businesses, such as Royal Stage Theater, T&Z Toys and Ron’s Jewelry.
