A hair salon on Auburn Boulevard has closed after more than 40 years in operation according to a Dec. 8 press release.

The Supercuts location at 8119 Auburn Blvd., which opened in 1981 as one of the earliest Supercuts in the region, shuttered on Nov. 16.

The shutdown coincides with the retirement of Cheryl Wilhelm, a stylist from the store’s original opening team who later advanced to district manager. Wilhelm used to live in Citrus Heights.

Over her more than 40-year career, Wilhelm trained countless stylists, supported multiple Supercuts locations, and played a key role in regional operations the media release said. Her retirement arrives just as the Auburn Boulevard store turns its final page, closing a legacy that began with the shop’s launch in 1981.

While the storefront has gone dark, all four of its longtime stylists have relocated to the nearby Supercuts at 5863 Sunrise Blvd. in Citrus Heights. Stylists Amanda, Emily, Anna, and Katie are now available at the Sunrise Boulevard location, allowing customers to continue booking appointments with their preferred professionals.

Although the company has not released details regarding the decision to close the location, officials said the move was made at the corporate level and did not involve staffing issues.
