A Citrus Heights resident contacted police after discovering an unfamiliar man inside her backyard shed, according to the Citrus Heights Police Department.
Officers responded to the call and secured the area, establishing a perimeter around the property while issuing multiple announcements in an attempt to get the individual to exit the shed voluntarily. When those efforts were unsuccessful, officers made entry and safely detained the man.
Authorities said in a social media post on the department’s website, that after more investigation, police found the man had accessed the property’s utilities and appeared to be preparing to remain at the location for an extended period of time without the homeowner’s permission. The investigation also revealed the man was on probation and had a history of prior arrests.
The man was taken into custody and transported to the Sacramento County Main Jail.
The Citrus Heights Police Department encouraged residents to report suspicious or unusual activity on their property and reminded the community that officers are available to respond to safety concerns.
