Strong winds and heavy rain on Christmas Eve and into Christmas Day brought localized flooding and a handful of downed trees throughout Citrus Heights, resulting in at least one stalled vehicle on Sunrise Boulevard due to water covering the roadway.
Citrus Heights Police received reports periodically throughout the day on Christmas Day of downed trees, flooding on Oak Avenue near C-Bar-C park, and flooding on all lanes of Sunrise Boulevard at Macy Plaza Drive. At least one vehicle had to be towed from the water.
Residents posted videos on social media show flooding on Greenback Lane at Fair Oaks Boulevard and on Twin Oaks Avenue. Other residents posted photos of local creeks overflowing their banks. Another video showed Mariposa Creek expanding its banks, with water reaching up to the Mariposa Creek Bridge. Some residents also reported clogged storm drains.
The City of Citrus Heights issued public service announcements on social media prior to the incoming storm asking the community at large to help clear leaves from gutters in front of their homes to prevent leaves from being blown or flowing from rain runoff into storm drains.
