One suspect has been released from jail following an arrest on felony weapon charges over the weekend.

Citrus Heights police officers interrupted an in-progress vehicle burglary over the weekend, leading to the arrest of the 18-year-old suspect and the seizure of an illegally modified firearm.

According to the Citrus Heights Police Department, patrol officers responded to a report of a vehicle burglary actively occurring in the early morning hours Saturday and were able to stop the crime in real time. During the investigation, officers located an illegally modified Glock handgun capable of automatic fire, classifying it as a machine gun. A 50-round high-capacity drum magazine was also found inside the suspect’s vehicle.

Police identified the suspect as Daniel Joseph Rudulph, 18, who was determined to be on probation and legally prohibited from possessing firearms. Rudulph was arrested at the scene and booked into jail on four felony weapons charges. Sacramento County jail records show Rudolph was released on Jan. 10.

In a statement released on social media, police described the incident as an example of proactive policing, emphasizing the importance of stopping crimes as they happen and removing dangerous weapons from the streets before someone is harmed.
