The City of Citrus Heights is preparing to implement a series of traffic safety improvements at the intersection of Fair Oaks Boulevard and Woodlake Hills Drive as part of its Multi-Modal Transportation Safety Program.

The four-way intersection has four stop signs at each approach. City officials say the intersection has been prioritized for enhancements aimed at improving visibility, traffic, and safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

Construction is expected to begin within the next week, weather permitting. The city advised that temporary “No Parking” signs may be posted during construction to provide crews adequate space to complete improvements.

Short-term lane shifts are also a possibility, though access for nearby residents will be maintained at all times.

Planned upgrades include striping of new crosswalks on all approaches to the intersection, and new stop limit lines for northbound and southbound traffic on Fair Oaks Boulevard. Crews will also add a new “STOP” pavement marking for eastbound traffic on Woodlake Hills Drive and refresh existing “STOP” legends for the remaining approaches.

To address the state’s new Daylighting Law, which restricts parking near intersections to improve sightlines, the project will add 20 feet of red curb on the westbound side of Woodlake Hills Drive. Missing post delineators on the striped median island will also be replaced as part of the work.

Several signage improvements are also planned, including the addition of red retro-reflective strips added to stop sign posts on all approaches to improve nighttime visibility.

Existing stop sign posts on the northbound and southbound approaches will be relocated, and a new “ALL WAY” plaque will be installed alongside a replacement stop sign on the eastbound approach.

The project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance traffic safety at key intersections throughout Citrus Heights.
