A vehicle collided with a power pole on Tuesday afternoon, causing damage and loss of power to a handful of Citrus Heights SMUD customers, according to SMUD outage maps.
The vehicle collision occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on Antelope Road between Auburn Boulevard and Mariposa Avenue and resulted from the driver swerving to avoid a squirrel, law enforcement said.
A SMUD power outage map showed 11 customers without power in the city following the collision, with the cause cited as a vehicle collision with a utility pole. The collision resulted in some damage to one home, officials said.
Photos show a vehicle sustained front and back-end damage after appearing to have crashed into the garage of a residence, with the power pole and electricity lines having fallen across the driveway of the impacted residence.
No major injuries were reported.
The area where the damage occurred was cordoned off with yellow tape, and at least one lane was shut down for several hours while SMUD crew members worked to repair the damaged pole.
As of Wednesday morning, no power outages were reported in Citrus Heights according to SMUD’s outage map, with all previous outages having been resolved.
