A popular local bakery is moving from the Marketplace at Birdcage to a new suite down the street, just outside the border of Citrus Heights.
Sweet Haven Bakery, known for its unique creations of cookies, cupcakes, and cakes and vegan options, celebrated its last day open in the Marketplace at Birdcage in Citrus Heights on Saturday, March 28, the company posted on Instagram.
The bakery will be moving to a larger space, with plans to gradually construct a commercial-grade kitchen in the back of the space. Trina and Colin Claycomb, parents to their son Haven, who bakes all the creations for the bakery, said the shop plans to keep the front of the bakery similar in size, which will allow for some seating for customers.
While operating in Citrus Heights, the bakery utilized a commercial kitchen space to bake all of its goods and will continue to do so. The bakery also partnered with other shops, including Black Sails Coffee Lounge, which was open for about six months last year, around the corner from Sweet Haven Bakery.
The bakery operated in the Marketplace at Birdcage on a corner across from HomeGoods for almost two years, the Claycombs said, but the goal was always to find a permanent spot. The company began looking for another spot about two months ago, Trina Claycomb said.
Haven Claycomb has been creating desserts for customers since 14, his brothers told The Sentinel. Trina Claycomb said he began baking at an early age, and then friends began asking him to bake for them.
According to his website, Claycomb began selling to neighbors and friends right before the pandemic began. Since then, Claycomb has sold his desserts at local vendors’ markets throughout the region while still in school. He has a strong following on Instagram and is famous for his carrot cake cupcakes.
Sweet Haven Bakery will hold a new grand opening in its new suite located at 5346 Sunrise Blvd., at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison in Fair Oaks, just outside the city. The grand reopening is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, at 10 a.m.
To order cakes and other custom desserts or inquire about desserts’ availability in-store, customers can request orders on the company’s website, or message Claycomb directly on Instagram.
