City Council members will meet Thursday evening for what appears will be a short council meeting to issue a trio of proclamations as well as hear an update on a COVID relief grant program for local small businesses and receive a quarterly report on the city’s financials.
The May 12 meeting is slated to begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall, located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive. The relatively short agenda packet is 49 pages in length, with only two new items slated for votes.

The meeting will begin with the issuance of several proclamations, including declaring the week of May 15-21 as both National Public Works Week and National Police Week. The council will also issue a recognizing the month of May as Building Safety Month.
Military equipment. The council will hold a routine second reading of an ordinance voted on last month which lists approved military equipment that is or can be used by the Citrus Heights Police Department. See prior story: Citrus Heights passes new military equipment use policy for police
Treasurer’s report. The council will consider routine acceptance and filing of a quarterly treasurer’s report for the period ending March. 31, 2022. The six-page report summarizes the city’s various investment accounts and shows the market value of the city’s cash and investments at $38.1 million, up from $30.9 million at the end of the prior quarter. The total includes $6.8 million in unexpended funds received from the American Rescue Plan Act.
COVID relief grants. The council will hear a staff report with an update on a small business grant program, which distributed a total of $277,611 in funds, out of $320,000 that had been allocated by the council. According to a staff report, 76 applications were received, with about half meeting criteria and being approved. The report said staff do “not recommend an additional round of COVID recovery business grants,” noting the program was “undersubscribed.”
