Numerous Citrus Heights residents reported hearing multiple explosion noises coming from the area near Citrus Heights Elementary on Tuesday morning and Wednesday night this week, with sounds reportedly being heard as far away as Interstate 80 and Antelope Road.
“I thought it was an explosion of some kind,” resident Dean Pryne said, adding that the bomb-like noise sounded like it came from directly in front of his house. “It wasn’t a firework.”
Pryne said he heard a first explosion around 3 a.m. Tuesday, after being awoken by a blast strong enough to shake his house on Raintree Drive. He said a second explosion was heard Wednesday around 10 p.m., but was not as loud as the initial blast.
Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Mike Wells said several calls were received from residents regarding the explosion Wednesday night, with officers locating debris from a small explosion on the sidewalk and roadway area of Raintree Drive and Minuet Way. He said the Sacramento County Sheriffs Explosive Ordinance Detail assisted police and “collected some of the recovered items as evidence to determine the type of device and possible suspect information.”
Wells said no one was hurt and “it does not appear that there was any specific target for the explosion.”
