On Wednesday, Citrus Heights will welcome the grand opening of a new 28,000-square-feet grocery store at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Madison Avenue.
“We are excited to join the community and looking forward to meeting our new friends & neighbors,” the Southern California-based Smart & Final company announced on its Facebook page earlier this week.
The company also said, while supplies last, free reusable shopping bags will be provided to customers who shop at the store during the May 4 grand opening. Doors will open at 7 a.m.
The new store will be the second-largest “Smart & Final Extra!” store in the Sacramento region, according to District Manager Mike Barter. The “Extra” reference in the store’s title refers to it carrying additional selection from smaller, traditional Smart & Final locations.
Barter told residents at a community meeting earlier this year that the new location will feature an expanded meat section, as well as organics and a full produce selection.
The new Smart & Final is located at 7945 Madison Ave. in Citrus Heights, in the new Capital Nursery Plaza.

As previously reported on The Sentinel, the still-under-construction shopping plaza will also feature Moe’s Southwest Grill, Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, Black Bear Diner, and McDonald’s. Several other spaces are still listed as available.
