Sentinel staff report–
Police said no threat to the public remains after a helicopter-assisted search concluded Monday night in Citrus Heights, although the felony domestic violence suspect being sought was not located.

“(The) suspect has been identified and is still currently outstanding, however, this has been determined to be an isolated incident and there is currently no threat to the public,” the Citrus Heights Police Department said in an update on social media Tuesday afternoon. “Thank you for your patience and cooperation. This case is currently under investigation.”

Around 10 p.m. on Monday night, residents in the areas surrounding Highland Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard could hear announcements made by a circling helicopter advising them to stay inside and lock doors and windows. The announcement also described the suspect as wearing a cowboy hat and a dark-colored shirt and shorts.

In a post on social media Monday night the department advised residents of “[p]olice activity in the area of Spring Valley Av with a helicopter overhead making P.A. announcements in search of a felony domestic violence suspect. We appreciate your cooperation, and please secure your homes.”

An hour later, just after 11 p.m., police tweeted “We appreciate your patience and support this evening. The helicopter has cleared our scene as we conclude this investigation.”

In response to a Twitter user’s question about whether the suspect had been caught, the department tweeted: “Unfortunately not yet, but he has been identified and we will continue exhausting our leads and investigative measures.”

As of Tuesday evening, Sergeant Kristopher Frey said the incident remains under investigation. Additional details about the suspect and incident were not released.

Frey said police had posted information about the search on social media due to past helicopter activity drawing “a lot of interest” from the public.
