Sentinel staff report–
This Wednesday evening, voters will have a chance to hear from the five candidates who qualified for the 2018 Citrus Heights City Council race in an upcoming two-hour forum at city hall.
The Aug. 29 candidate forum is organized by the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (PAC), which hosts similar forums each election season and also offers endorsements and hefty donations in the race for city council. According to an event flier, the forum will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 6360 Fountain Square Drive.

Ray Riehle, who chairs the Chamber PAC, said the forum will be held in a similar format as in 2016, with questions asked by a moderator and each candidate being given the same amount of time to answer each question. The 15-member Chamber PAC committee will also hold private interviews with each candidate at a later date before announcing endorsements.
The five candidates in this year’s race for two city council seats up for election are Jeannie Bruins, who currently serves as the city’s vice mayor; Treston Shull, a labor relations manager and neighborhood volunteer; Steve Miller, who currently serves as the city’s mayor; Porsche Middleton, who was appointed to the city’s planning commission last year; and Albert Fox, who was appointed to fill a vacancy on the city council last year.
During the 2016 election, the Chamber PAC endorsed Councilman Jeff Slowey and candidate Marcel Weiland, additionally giving each a $1,750 campaign donation from the PAC. Slowey ended up placing first in the election that year, while Weiland placed third.
The Chamber PAC will also hold another candidate forum at city hall the following day, Aug. 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., for the four candidates who qualified to run for two seats up for election on the San Juan Unified School District school board.
