In advance of open enrollment beginning next month, the San Juan Unified School District will host a “Meet your Citrus Heights Schools” open house on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Citrus Heights Community Center.
“We’re inviting parents and families in Citrus Heights to learn more about what each of the 12 different district schools in Citrus Heights each have to offer,” said Raj Rai, district communications director.
The San Juan Unified offers open enrollment, giving students the opportunity to attend a neighborhood public school, or another public school within the district of their choice, Rai said. All of the 12 district schools in Citrus Heights are accepting new students.
District elementary schools in Citrus Heights include Arlington Heights, Cambridge Heights, Carriage Drive, Grand Oaks Elementary, Mariposa Avenue and Skycrest. Citrus Heights is home to three K-8 grade schools, Kingswood, Lichen and Woodside, Sylvan Middle and two high schools, Mesa Verde and San Juan.
“Parents, students and their families will be able to talk to school staff and learn about special activities each school offers as they consider their enrollment choices,” Rai said.
“As an example, Arlington Heights Elementary has a student dance team that will perform, and Carriage Drive Elementary has an exciting student visual and performing arts program which will be showcased that evening,” Rai said.
Members of the Sylvan Middle School and Mesa Verde High School bands will also perform, she said.
The event also features presentations by Mesa Verde and San Juan High Schools which offer traditional and career technical education (CTE) pathways.
San Juan High School, which has a student enrollment of 620 students, offers four CTE pathways including media, culinary, auto and construction.
Open enrollment in the San Juan Unified School District for elementary, middle and high school students starts on Monday, December 2 and continues through Jan. 17, 2020. Enrollment for new kindergarten students starts in early February 2020.
Some 40,000 students attend 64 different schools in the San Juan Unified School District. The district employs some 5,000 full-time staff.
