Citrus Heights police are increasing patrols through Independence Day Weekend and reminding residents to drink responsibly.
Although many Independence Day celebrations have been canceled due to COVID-19, more businesses are beginning to open, so police will still need to keep a watchful eye for impaired drivers, the department said in a press release on Wednesday.
Due to the holiday falling on a Saturday, police plan toincrease patrols throughout the weekend to ensure safety.
“We are all anxious to get out and return to some sense of normalcy,” said Police Lt. Jason Baldwin, “but that doesn’t excuse forgetting how to be safe on the road by driving impaired.”
In addition to alcohol, police also warned some over-the-counter drugs, prescription medication, and marijuana can impair driving and result in a DUI violation.
