Sentinel staff report–
The Citrus Heights City Council last week approved a list of 11 residential streets to repave over the next year. But plans could change if gas tax revenues and available funding are lower than anticipated.
The approval of a list of streets to be repaved is required by the state as a condition of receiving Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account funding, which comes from Senate Bill 1, also known as the 2017 “gas tax.”
The latest list approved by the city includes the following streets:
- Sloop Court
- Arcaro Court
- Peony Court
- Three Sisters Court
- Begonia Court
- Wild Oak Drive
- Whaler Court
- Noreen Way
- Hill Drive
- Beta Court
- Verbena Court
The city is projected to receive $1.5 million in SB 1 gas tax funds for the current fiscal year, but a staff report says a “large portion” of those funds will go towards a complete streets improvement project along Greenback Lane, from Sunrise Boulevard to Fair Oaks Boulevard.
The city says it is prioritizing the Greenback Lane project due to partial funding of $600,000 being available for the project from the Sacramento Transportation Authority, which must be used in the current fiscal year, ending on June 30, 2021. Additional funds are needed to cover the project, which will come from SB 1 revenue. Remaining funds will go towards the residential street repaving project.
It is unclear from the staff report how much funding is expected to remain for the residential repaving project.
Utilizing $1.5 million in gas tax and Measure A funds last year, the city completed repaving of 13 sections of streets during the last fiscal year, which also included installing ADA compliant curb ramps and “miscellaneous concrete and drainage repairs.” The total length of repaving work was approximately two miles.
