A wide-ranging list of more than 500 Citrus Heights businesses received funds through the federal government’s Paycheck Protection Program, according to data released this month by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Small Business Administration.
The list includes skilled nursing care facilities, general contractors, restaurants, medical offices, and veterinarians. Businesses large and small took advantage of the government program aimed at keeping employees on the payroll during the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent shutdown of large portions of the economy.
On My Own Independent Living Services, a home care provider with its Sacramento regional office located on Sunrise Boulevard, received between $2 to $5 million, the largest amount of any Citrus Heights-based business. Data showed the company also had the highest number of retained employees, at 473.
Always Home nursing services, King’s Casino which operates Stones, Lilliput Children’s Service, Paradise Oaks youth service, and Quality First Home Improvement all received between $1 and $2 million. Bayside Church and the parent company for Bearpaw also received loans, as did Harris Industrial Gasses, one of the oldest businesses in the city.
Paycheck Protection Program loans are largely forgivable, meaning they won’t have to be repaid as long as businesses adhere to guidelines for how to use the funds.
In all, 67 businesses with Citrus Heights addresses listed received loans greater than $150,000, while 528 businesses were listed in a separate data set for loans totaling less than $150,000. Names of businesses receiving loans under $150,000 were not released.
Halls Furniture owner Mike Harper told The Sentinel in an interview Saturday he originally planned to temporarily close and wait out the shutdown using a savings account until reopening, but decided to apply for the loan when the shutdown continued longer than expected.
Harper said the application was unclear about including the owner’s income as part of the employee payroll, and he had to re-submit a corrected application. He later received a loan for under $150,000.
Of those receiving more than $150,000, one Citrus Heights business received between $2 – $5 million, five businesses received between $1 – $2 million, 26 businesses received $350,000 – $1 million, and 35 businesses received $150,000 – $350,000.
The following is a list of businesses with Citrus Heights addresses that received amounts greater than $150,000.
