A fire started on the exterior of a vacant sushi restaurant at Greenback Lane and Sunrise Vista Drive on Friday night.
Metro Fire captain Brian Gonsalves said calls came in around 7 p.m., and crews were dispatched to the 8000 block Greenback Lane. While en route, crews learned the fire had spread to the attic, and the incident was elevated to a full commercial response.
Crews arrived and found an exterior fire near the southwest corner of the building that started to move into the attic space. It took crews less than a half hour to extinguish the flames, and work continued to remove damaged tiles and boards from a roof overhang.
No injuries were reported, and Gonsalves said the cause was under investigation, as of Friday night. He credited concerned passersby with saving the building by reporting the incident.
“Being close to Greenback here, there was quite a few calls on it,” Gonsalves said. “People driving by and seeing it, it was reported quick and that helped save the building from extensive damage. A few more minutes and it would be a total loss.”
Signage for Flaming Mountain Asian Fusion sushi buffet can be seen facing Greenback Lane. A public notice of application for ownership change was posted November 13.
