Sentinel staff report–
A Friday-night DUI Checkpoint operation on Sunrise Boulevard near Oak Avenue resulted in 759 vehicles being screened, with police arresting two drivers on charges of driving under the influence.
Police said the five-hour checkpoint also resulted in an additional 39 citations for various violations, along with four vehicles being impounded. The checkpoint operation included checking drivers for proper licensing, with citations typically involving suspended or unlicensed drivers.
The Citrus Heights Police Department receives funding for its checkpoints via a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The department’s most recent grant was awarded last year for $161,000.
