Firefighters responding to a blaze at a Citrus Heights mobile home park Wednesday evening said one person was found dead inside.
Metro Fire Captain Chris Vestal told The Sentinel crews arrived in the Stonegate Mobile Home Park and found the individual deceased inside a unit where the fire is believed to have started. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the identity of the deceased individual has not been released pending notification of next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
No other injuries were reported, but the fire left one unit destroyed and surrounding units left with minor heat and smoke damage.
Vestal said crews were dispatched at about 6:40 p.m. on June 9. It took crews about 30 to 40 minutes to get the fire under control, he said.
“We conduct a fast fire attack as well as a search of all other units that are involved where we can actually make entry based on fire conditions,” Vestal said. “Unfortunately we weren’t able to get in there and make a rescue of that person due to the extreme fire behavior.”
Stonegate Mobile Home Park is a senior community for persons over age 55, according to the community’s website. It is located in the northwestern area of Citrus Heights, off Whyte Avenue.
