Mayor hints at banning all fireworks in Citrus Heights
Following a report from the Police Department showing calls for illegal fireworks roughly doubled this year despite a new ordinance cracking down on illegal and late-night fireworks, Citrus Heights Mayor Steve Miller said: “I’ll tell you folks, the end game here is: if you can’t get a handle on these illegal fireworks, it’s gonna be all fireworks and nobody is going to be happy.” Miller appeared to be referring to a last resort option, adding: “I don’t want to go there. I think safe and sane have a place in our celebrations and hopefully we can get a handle on this.” (Watch full remarks)
Citrus Heights man involved in fatal collision on Highway 49
The Nevada County Union reported Thursday that a 29-year-old driver from Citrus Heights collided with another vehicle on Highway 49 last month, resulting in the death of the other driver. The deceased driver was named as 83-year-old Donald Green, who “appears not to have checked southbound traffic” before making a turn, The Union reported. (See Union article)
Obituary: William (Bill) Townshend (1941-2021)
Citrus Heights resident Bill Townshend passed away July 3 at the age of 80, according to an obituary published on Saturday in The Sacramento Bee. Townshend grew up in Montana and moved to Citrus Heights in 1965 where he raised his family while working for AAA. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and was known for his “witty humor, cantankerous spirit, and generous heart.” A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. July 17, at Mount Vernon Memorial Park.
