Survey says Citrus Heights ranks No. 2 city for ‘rudest’ drivers. But is it true?

By Mike Hazlip–
Survey findings released by insurance brokerage Insurify rank Citrus Heights drivers as the some of the rudest drivers in the country, second only to Rancho Cordova.

The survey gives a rude driving rate of 64.14 for every 1,000 drivers in Citrus Heights. The national average is 22.65, according to the brokerage. Insurify claims their data was gathered by comparing infractions on record for drivers who have applied for insurance.

Insurify defines rude driving as having one or more infractions on record such as failure to yield, failure to stop, improper backing, passing where prohibited, tailgating, street racing and hit-and-run. The survey claims to include over four million insurance applications in 869 cities nationwide.

KCRA reported that the City of Rancho Cordova has disputed the survey results, questioning the methodology. In a public announcement released Tuesday, the city gave several points claiming Insurify’s methods are not accurate using data from the city’s own police records.

At least one Citrus Heights councilmember has also questioned the survey’s findings.

“When I dove deep into this, it get(s) very convoluted,” Councilman Tim Schaefer said in a response posted on social media. “The basis of this headline is produced by a company that provides insurance companies with sales leads. I wouldn’t consider it a credible source of current or valid information.”

Other cities have also challenged the claims from Insurify’s survey, which listed the “rudest city” in each state and generated headlines across the country over the past week.
