1 arrested for DUI at checkpoint operation
Citrus Heights police reported one person was arrested for DUI during a Friday night checkpoint operation held near Harris Gas on Auburn Boulevard, on Dec. 17th. A total of 593 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which also led to 14 citations for various vehicle code violations, as well as two vehicles being towed.

Vehicle crashes into trees on Greenback Lane
A non-injury solo vehicle collision on eastbound Greenback Lane and Brookhaven Way blocked off access to several homes Friday night. The driver, who didn’t want to be identified, said another vehicle was crowding him off the road as he attempted to pass another vehicle, although he said it did not seem deliberate. The vehicle struck three smaller trees and several posts before colliding with a larger tree and coming to a stop. Police at the scene said a breathalyzer test showed no intoxication.
Obituary: William E. Counselman (1926-2021)
Citrus Heights resident William Counselman passed away Dec. 12 at the age of 95. According to an obituary published in The Sacramento Bee, Counselman was born in Alabama and later served in the Navy during World War 2. He married in 1946 and later moved to Sacramento where he worked at McClellan Air Force Base. He enjoyed card games, golf and woodworking, and also served as a Sunday school teacher and a deacon at his church. He is survived by his four children, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Dec. 22, at First Baptist Church of Fair Oaks. (See obituary)
