Citrus Heights saw four additional shooting incidents in the last few months of a year that saw an alarming increase in shootings.
The Sentinel previously detailed 16 incidents involving shots fired in Citrus Heights between Jan. 1 and Oct. 18, 2021. In response to a Sentinel inquiry, Police Lt. Chad Morris outlined the latest incidents in an email on Wednesday.
Below is a list of the incidents. None of the shootings resulted in injuries, and investigations are ongoing.
- Oct. 22, police responded to a report of three gunshots near Calvary Cemetery. Officers found two shell casings at the scene, and no victims were found. There were no reported injuries.
- Oct. 30, Officers responded to the Atwood Apartments after receiving reports of shots fired. Officers found multiple bullet casings and apparent bullet holes in an apartment complex dumpster. No victims were found and no injuries were reported.
- Nov. 24, officers investigated a report of an unknown suspect who shot a parked vehicle on Mariposa Avenue.
- Dec. 4, Police responded to 6325 San Pablo Drive after receiving reports of a shooting. Police said there were two victims, but no injuries. The suspect has been identified, and was known to both victims.
The incidents wind up a year where Citrus Heights saw a significant increase in shootings. As previously reported, by May 23, the city had already seen seven intentional shootings, compared with just one during that same period in 2020.
According to a Jan. 4 article in The Sacramento Bee, the City of Sacramento also saw a significant increase in shootings and homicides, while Sacramento County overall saw a drop in homicides. Of the shootings in Citrus Heights last year, three were fatal, up from two the year before.
