Mesa Verde and San Juan high schools are both seeking applicants for the role of principal, according to job listings posted to education professionals website EdJoin.
The openings are listed as permanent full-time positions, with a salary range between $113,004 to $148,578. The positions were posted Jan. 20 with an application deadline of Feb. 18 for San Juan High School and Feb. 25 for Mesa Verde.
In a statement emailed to The Sentinel Monday, San Juan Unified School District’s director of communication, Raj Rai, said the former principal of Mesa Verde, Colin Bross, had been serving in the position since 2014 but was promoted last month to a district-level position as director of maintenance and operations. She said the former vice principal at El Camino Fundamental High School, Jennifer Peterson, is currently serving as interim principal in his place.
San Juan High School’s former principal, Dennis Foster, was hired in July 2020, and left a little over a year later in December 2021, Rai said. She did not include a reason for his departure, but said veteran administrator Judy Billingsley is currently serving as acting principal.
Announcements from San Juan High School in August 2020 welcomed Foster to the district. Foster participated in the school’s in-person graduation in June 2021 and later expressed optimism in a principal’s message to San Juan High School on Aug. 13, 2021.
